Germany’s terrain is extremely diverse, beautiful and moving, with rolling mountains, plateau platforms, hills, mountains, lakes and vast plains. From north to south, it can be divided into five terrain areas: North German lowlands, middle mountain uplifts, southwest middle mountain trapezoids, South German Alps frontier and Bavaria Alps.

The North German lowlands are characterized by scattered lakes, rolling hills mixed with fertile loess fields extending south along the coast, high dryland, clay platform, grassland, bog and medium mountain uplift.
